The startle response is an animal's reaction to sudden and intense stimuli. A typical startle response is composed of a fast, sequential muscle contraction. The amplitude of startle response can be influenced by external or internal conditions and be enhanced or weakened at the basic level. The sensory gating system of animals can be studied through this behavior test. The SR-LAB system uses white noises as stimuli and ultra-sensitive sensors to detect muscle contraction, provides a complete hardware and software solution for startle research such as startle response, startle habituation and pre-pulse inhibition (PPI).
